6 Famous Animal Lovers - Tether Tug

Everyone loves animals, and celebrities or entrepreneurs aren’t an exception. Even throughout their busy schedules, they find time to take care of their beloved four-legged friend or make contributions to help benefit animals. These 6 famous animal lovers all have a strong appreciation for animals.

Jake Gyllenhaal

Jake Gyllenhaal is a celebrity so enamored with dogs that he is hardly seen by the paparazzi without one. While he’s done many interviews where he speaks about his passion for dogs, he’s proven his love by owning two of his own! The 36-year-old is an owner of a German Shepherd named Atticus, and Puggle named Boo, both named after characters from To Kill A Mockingbird.

Ian Somerhalder

Known for his role in Vampire Diaries, Ian Somerhalder is also an animal lover. He not only owns dogs but also cats and horses with his girlfriend, Nikki Reed. In his spare time, he was able to create the Ian Somerhalder Foundation. The foundation aims to benefit the environment, end animal testing, fund animal shelters with no-kill policies and put a stop to animal cruelty.

Toby Scammell

For many people, a childhood pet holds a special place in their heart. For entrepreneur Toby Scammell, his pet wombat “Womply” even inspired his new company name. His love for unusual pets doesn’t stop there. Today, Toby’s residence on the San Francisco peninsula houses a pig named Clementine, and her litter of piglets.

Simon Cowell

You may know him as being the pessimistic and mean-spirited judge from American Idol, but his passion for animals is not up for debate. Cowell is a celebrity spokesperson for PETA, an organization aimed against animal cruelty and exploitation. Simon Cowell also advocates for adoption and is against buying when it comes to owning an animal and adopted two of his terriers in 2010.

Barbara Streisand

Barbara Streisand has always had a fondness for animals, but when her story came out in 2018, the world realized just how much. In an interview with Variety, Streisand admitted that she cloned her beloved dog that had passed away last year in order to make two nearly-identical dogs of the breed Coton de Tulears. You can’t deny that she isn’t in love with her animals!

Ellen DeGeneres

Ellen and her wife, Portia, own three dogs and three cats that they can’t picture their lives without. Ellen switched to a vegan lifestyle in 2009 when she realized the horrors of the animal agriculture and animal testing industries. On her show, she often advocates the benefits of a vegan lifestyle and has founded The Ellen DeGeneres Wildlife Fund where her mission statement involves the benefit of all animals, especially endangered species.

The rich and famous have just as much love for animals as anyone else. Sometimes their resources benefit animals in need, and sometimes they make their pets the center of their world. Being aware of the love celebrities have for animals can make them more relatable and admirable to us. Whatever the case may be, it’s easy to find animal lovers in the unlikeliest of places.
